Day 2 : Cycle To The Renaissance Town Of Trebon (55Km/33Mi)

The day ends in Telc, a Renaissance town registered on the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List. Houses on the main square in Telc, with facades decorated with typically renaissance graffiti, form the best-preserved Renaissance square in the Czech Republic.

Grading

The cycling distances range from 25 to 96km (15.5 to 59.5mi) over undulating terrain with some steep hills - you may need to walk your bike uphill for short sections. The rides follow mostly well surfaced tarmac lanes and secondary roads with little traffic however there are parts of the ride on dirt tracks with a few soft sand areas where caution is required. Inevitably, near the larger towns there is more traffic. It is considered suitable for cyclists with a good level of fitness, able to tackle some hills. E-bikes are available should you be concerned about your fitness. We recommend that you familiarise yourself with road cycling in light traffic in order to participate comfortably. *For safety reasons, we insist that cycle helmets are worn whilst cycling.

What You Carry

During the cycle day you will carry your daily requirements in the pannier provided with the bike. This may include your lunch, wet weather gear, mobile phone and water. A small daypack which can be kept inside the pannier is useful for sightseeing.

The countryside was beautiful. We rode through the beautiful Podyji National Park, and along the Iron Curtain trail, as well as good roads and paved trails. It was strenuous, and I’m glad I had an ebike. In some places, the trail was challenging, and we had to dismount for a short stretch.

I was pleasantly surprised by the countryside of the Czech Republic, how colourful it was, how friendly the locals, and how many interesting historical sites. My first time joining a group as a solo traveller and I loved the camaraderie. Will definitely be back for another cycling holiday with UTracks!

The trip was very well planned. Our two guides were excellent - very attentive to our needs and well organised. The back up driver / mechanic was excellent making sure our bikes were fully prepared each day. Some of the accommodation had multiple lights of stairs which was a big problem with heavy cases. The guides really helped with this when they could but this was definitely an issue.

We had a small group of energetic and fun people, strong riders as well as a cyclist on an electric bike. Vlasta was our guide who was very informative and kept us safe. The Czech Republic has such an interesting history with beautiful towns, castles etc. The accommodation was mostly great, lovely evening meals with wine or beer that were always welcome after a hard day cycling. Good hearty breakfasts too. Fillip was our driver, he was always helpful topping up water bottles and offering snacks and carrying suitcases up the steps to our hotel rooms, he also enjoyed sharing his country’s history, great conversations over dinner. A truly recommendable cycling trip. Thank you!

The ride from Prague to Vienna was interesting and fun. The countryside was beautiful and we were blessed with wonderful weather. The trip was rated as moderate but that was true if you were on an e-bike. It proved challenging for those who were on roadbikes. It was a great way to explore the Czech countryside.
