Day 1-3: Broome / West Kimberley Gorges

Location: Broome / West Kimberley Gorges

Accommodation: Camping (with shared facilities)

As we travel through the remote and beautiful Kimberley landscape, our guide shares stories of local history, people and the environment. Enjoy a morning tea break by the Fitzroy River, the biggest waterway in the Kimberley which floods annually, but recently swelled to record levels in a once in a 100 year weather event! Soon enough we hit the Gibb River Road and journey to our campsite in Silent Grove, where we set up camp for our first night under the Kimberley stars. In the morning we discover Bell Gorge, a hidden highlight of the West Kimberley. This idyllic retreat, considered amongst the most beautiful in the area, boasts cascading waterfalls and crystal clear pools formed over millions of years – an easy place to while away a few hours! Further up the Gibb River Road, we discover the cool waters of water lily-laden Galvans Gorge and stunning Adcock Gorge. Swim across the Manning River to start our trek into Manning Gorge. Amid the rugged beauty of Manning Falls we swim in deep clear pools, relax, explore wandering streams, uncover local wildlife and take a dip in the waterfall pools. Overnight we camp by a billabong on Mt Barnett Cattle Station.

Day 4-5: El Questro Wilderness Park

Location: El Questro Wilderness Park

Accommodation: Permanent tented camp (with shared facilities)

El Questro Station is an icon of the Kimberley. We include a refreshing dip in the Zebedee Springs, a walk into Emma Gorge and the more challenging trek into El Questro Gorge. A trek up to Sandleback Ridge Lookout for sunset is a great way to end the day! There are optional activities as well so you can choose to simply explore this beautiful wilderness park at your own leisure.

Day 6-7: Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles)

Location: Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles)

Accommodation: Camping (with shared facilities)

Emerge from the Gibb River Road and travel to Kununurra. Explore the Savannah Woodland in Mirima National Park, often known as the ‘mini Bungle Bungles’, on the Gerliwany-gerring Banan Trail. After lunch, travel south to Violet Valley. It’s an early start on to make our way into Purnululu National Park, home of the magnificent Bungle Bungles. Walk up the creek bed into Echidna Chasm and trek through the Bungle Bungle domes: rivers created this landscape of unique orange and black striped ‘beehive’ geological formations over a period of 20 million years. Unbelievably, only the locals knew it existed until the early 1980s; once discovered by others, the area was made a national park in 1987. Discover Cathedral Gorge, where towering rocks create a natural amphitheatre, then kick back at our own private camp overlooking the Bungles Massif.

Day 8: Wolfe Creek Crater

Location: Wolfe Creek Crater

Accommodation: Camping (with shared facilities)

Meals Included: breaksfast, lunch, dinner

This morning we walk into Mini Palms before we bid farewell to Purnululu National Park and travel through Halls Creek to the rugged Tanami Track. Turning south we make our way out to the famous Wolfe Creek Crater, known locally as Kandimalal. This distinctive hole in the earth’s crust is believed to have been left by a meteorite that collided over 120,000 years old, during the Pleistocene period. An afternoon hike to the crater rim and a magical sunset sets the scene for another night camping around the fire in this remote, isolated destination.

Day 9: Mimbi Caves / Fitzroy Crossing

Location: Mimbi Caves / Fitzroy Crossing

Accommodation: Permanent tented camp (with shared facilities)

Meals Included: breaksfast, lunch

Sunrise over the crater is worth rising for then we pack up camp and return north up the Tanami Track – keep an eye out for wildlife! After lunch we visit the ancient realm of Mimbi Caves, one of Western Australia’s largest cave systems, in the heart of Gooniyandi Country. Spiritually significant, these limestone caves are one of the oldest identified sites of human occupation in Australia. Delve into Dreamtime with our local Gooniyandi guide who shares traditional stories and reveals the secrets of Mimbi Caves, a sanctuary of crystal clear pools, rare fossils and ancient rock art. Share fresh damper and billy tea with the Gooniyandi traditional owners before journey on to Fitzroy Crossing.

Day 10: Dimalurru (Tunnel Creek) / Windjana Gorge / Broome

Location: Dimalurru (Tunnel Creek) / Windjana Gorge / Broome

Meals Included: breaksfast, lunch

The Napier Range is over 350 million years old and home to Tunnel Creek, a 750-metre cave system in which we discover stalactites, secret caves and a large variety of wildlife. It is here we also learn the legend of Jandamarra, an Aboriginal freedom fighter who used the tunnel as a hide-out in the late 1800’s. In the afternoon we visit the geological wonder of Windjana Gorge, searching for freshwater crocodiles, local birdlife and indigenous bush tucker beneath the gorge walls that rise 90m. Then it is time to give your legs a hard-earned rest as we journey back into Broome. Relax and watch the savannah go by, reflecting on the adventure behind us and the ocean that awaits us.

Just leaving a review to share how much I enjoyed my Central America trip. I thought the guide, Aura was so knowledgeable and organised and clearly a great ambassador for Intrepid. She gave us lots of information on each region, helped us organise anything we needed and dealt with queries from passengers very well and diplomatically. She made the trip run smoothly. She was also keen to explain the Intrepid vision and how the company values making a difference to locals and is a credit to your company. I did Guatemala and beyond and thoroughly enjoyed it - very fast paced, lots to see and do and a great overview of the region. I would definitely recommend 👍

I have just come back home after doing Intrepid's 10-day Vietnam Express Northbound tour. What a SUPERB tour. We saw lots and did lots, it was jam-packed full of sights and activities. Our tour leader, Tam, was the best ever. Very knowledgeable, organised and lots of fun too. The other 10 people on the group were all lovely. The places we visited were very interesting. We even visited local homes and ate just like the local people do. I highly recommend Intrepid to anyone considering touring a new country. This was my 5th tour with them and they have consistently been fantastic.

15-Mar-2024

I recently went on an 11 day tour of India with Intrepid and was impressed with every aspect of the tour, the tour leader and the organisation behind the scenes. I always travel alone so it was a big deal to join a tour, I didn't want to feel less independent or ferried about. I loved being part of a group and the things we saw and did on the tour, I would never have known about or seen if I had been by myself. I loved it from start to finish. Yes the overnight trains were not easy to sleep on, but I managed. Meeting locals on board was a high light for me. English is widely spoken in India and its amazing who you strike up a chat with. I had two problems on the tour - one my own fault and one hotel related. The support from Intrepid was amazing. I cannot thank them enough for going the extra mile to support me. I recommend Intrepid 100% and have gone from thinking an organised tour is for people who don't know about Lonely Planet and can't do solo stuff, to realising its a faster, better, more fun way to get to know a country truly and deeply whilst on a bit of a budget. I will book again and again with Intrepid. I loved it that much! Big thanks to tour leader Daddy H. Devender for his help on day one, and Nick in the Oz office for his fab customer care skills. Also the person who staffed the emergency whatsapp in India - you saved my sanity helping me get there a day late! THANK YOU ALL X

North American Adventure

12-Oct-2021

This was my first international solo trip, but I never felt “alone” - there was always someone to go shopping, hike, or grab a quick bite with. The itinerary was a great balance between organized activities, while still allowing free time for exploring. Each location was unique and charming in its own way. Spending the night in the holy city of Moulay Idriss and wandering the winding streets of Chefchaouen were especially memorable. Thank you Mustapha and Intrepid for an incredible adventure!

I have just completed a 12 day food tour of Vietnam, and had an amazing time. Our tour leader was great, knowledgeable and kind, who helped throughout the trip with recommendations for places on our free days, and spas. All the food we tried was delicious. It is a very fast paced tour, and Bon tried to maximise our experiences for the best.

Amazing Guatemala and beyond tour with Intrepid

13-Dec-2022

Did Guatemala and beyond trip in November 22. It was amazing, we were so well looked after by our guide Aura. She was very knowledgeable and during our bus trips she gave us the history of the 4 countries. The border crossings can be tricky but handled very well by our guide. We saw all the most interesting and beautiful places. The hotels were lovely comfortable colonial style. I will travel with intrepid again

I have just completed my first trip with Intrepid to Southern Africa, and I loved every moment of it! We saw so much wildlife, stayed in some beautiful places, and learnt so much about the countries and people in a very short space of time. Our group leader, Admore, was exceptionally organised, coordinating every detail of our packed itinerary and keeping us informed along the way. The recruitment of a local group leader who can share their knowledge and fix the smallest of issues quickly really sets these trips apart, ensuring you feel safe and looked after at all times. I shall be booking my next trip soon!
