Day 1 : Inner Islands

Location: Ucluelet

Accommodation Name: Cedar Barrel Glamping Pod with King Size bed

Meals Included: Lunch, Dinner, Snack and Dessert

We will meet at 200 Hemlock Street at the Small Craft Harbour finger "F" to load all gear and head out, the boat ride will take approx. 30-60 min. You you will get a chance to take in the rugged and breath taking beauty of the coast and Barkley Sound. We will be dropped of at one of the many sandy beaches within the Broken Group Islands, where we unload all our gear and kayaks. After unloading and sending off the water taxi we will now proceed to pack all our gear into the kayaks, don’t worry, we will assist and teach you how to fit everything in, do a safety pre-trip talk, explaining and demonstrating the fundamentals of kayaking; like how to get in and out, sitting position, how to paddle, what to do in an emergency and of course answer any questions or concerns you might have. Your Guide will assist you if needed with launching your kayak and off we go.

Please never be shy of asking questions, whether it is about safety, kayaking, the abundant sea and wild life we encounter or forest ecology. All our Guides have been working in this part of the world for some time now and are extremely knowledgeable about the area and most plants and critters that live here.

Our itinerary will be determined by group ability and weather. Just to give you a rough idea we are aiming to paddle 4-6 hours a day. So there is plenty of time for other activities and relaxing. As we are paddling in between the islands there are plenty of opportunities to take pictures, have a snack and relaxing. Our philosophy is comfort , we believe that fun and adventure shouldn’t be painful or to strenuous. With that in mind we will make sure to have a fine balance between covering ground and giving everyone enough rest in between paddles. At around noon we will stop for our first lunch break, your guide will prepare a delicious meal while you kick back and relax and take in the beauty nature has to offer.

After everyone's belly is filled and we all had a good rest we will continue to paddle within the park. In the afternoon the water taxi will pick us up and bring us to our private glamping base camp. Your guide will point out all facilities, sleeping tubes and take you on a tour of the camp. Snacks and hot drinks will be available shortly after.

Dinner will be served between 6 - 7 pm. Every evening we will have a campfires where we can share our favourite moments from the day or you could watch and enjoy the sunset. Before we all say good night and go dream about the ocean, we will have a quick talk about the next day's schedule.

Day 2 : Outer Islands

Location: Broken Group

Accommodation Name: Cedar Barrel Glamping Pod with King Size Bed

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack and Dessert

We aim to have breakfast around 7am giving us plenty of time to enjoy our morning coffee. The water taxi will drop us off at different location allowing us to explore the majority of the Broken Group Islands. There will be plenty of opportunity to discover inter-tidal life , explore old-growth forests, and ancient First Nation Village sites.

Day 3 : Final Day

Location: Ucluelet

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Snack

will then paddle out into Barkley Sound and experience the open Pacific Ocean. Your guide will point out some spectacular views of the rocky shores, gigantic kelp beds, and perhaps an ancient first nations whaling beach or some incredible nearby rock formations. Sea lion colonies, black bears, seals, and whales may all be spotted by kayak on this day trip.

Check out our Q&As

  • Is there any free time to explore places during the tour?

Every evening you will have down time to relax or explore the 11 acre property

  • What is the maximum group size?

Our maximum group size is 6 guests plus 2 guides.

  • Are the local guides on the tour English speaking?

    Yes

  • Can you assist with pre or post tour accommodation?

We recommend visiting the following link for recommended accommodations - https://hellonature.ca/discover-ucluelet/rest-where-to-stay/

  • What is the tipping policy?

Tips are typically given to the guides at the end of the trip and range from 10-15% of the cost of the trip.

  • What happens if the weather is bad for my trip?

If you are on a multi day trip, we will adjust our route to paddle in sheltered areas. Paddling in the rain can be a wonderful experience when dressed correctly. If we encounter a serious rainstorm or very strong winds and it is unsuitable to be on the water, we will go hiking and tidal pooling, stay in camp and drink warm beverages, play cards, or read a favourite book. Your guides will make sure that everyone is comfortable and happy, regardless of the weather we may encounter.

  • What should I wear for my tour?

We recommend quick dry shorts or pants (trousers) and a quick dry shirt. Please avoid cotton as it takes a long time to dry and offers poor insulation when wet. Please bring a waterproof jacket, sandals, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and an extra layer for the boat ride.

  • What equipment is provided by Hello Nature?

All kayaking equipment, Spray skirts and paddling jacket, 5-litre, 20-litre and 30-litre dry bags per person, Laminated marine charts, MSR Papa Hubba 4-person tents, Hellionx Lite Cot, EXPED Downmate Lite 5 sleeping pad, Helinox Chair, Tarps for kitchen & group sitting area, All kitchen equipment, Toilet Paper, A hand wash station, All safety equipment & a first aid kit

  • How much kayaking experience is required to join one of your trips?

No previous kayaking experience is necessary. We have designed our trips for both active adventurers and those looking for a more relaxing pace.

  • Is travel insurance necessary?

While travel insurance is not mandatory, we highly recommend that all guests purchase adequate trip cancellation insurance. Having adequate coverage can really take the stress out of the unforeseen. While helpful for everyone, we especially are encouraging guests from outside of Canada to purchase adequate health insurance to cover non-refundable trip costs due to personal or family illness or accident. For detailed information on insurance coverage, please contact your insurance or travel agent. You will be requested to sign a waiver prior to departing on your trip.

  • How much paddling will we do?

The paddling pace of the tours depends on our guests, the sea conditions and the weather; Multiday tours typically do 4-5 hours of kayaking each day with rest stops

3 Days Kayaking in Paradise

13-Oct-2023

We booked a three day kayak trip in The Broken Group. What a fantastic trip. Our guides Nolan and Kristina were fantastic! No only where they wonderful kayak guides, their knowledge about the Broken Group, its culture and history, and wildlife was amazing. The food was fantastic as well as the conversation and paddling. We highly recommend Hello Nature, and we also suggest a minimum 10% tip for each guide. They are well worth it. Kevin was great and all equipment was top notch. They take care of everything and have safety as the top priority. I highly recommend Hello Nature.

3 Day Glamping

14-Oct-2023

We booked the three day glamping package and it was fantastic. Kevin couldn't have been more accomodating. He was very helpful and worked around the road closure to the best of his abilities. We loved every minute of the trip and our guide Nolan was so knowledgeable and attentive. He answered every question and worked to give us the tour of the Broken Group that we hoped for. We saw plentiful wildlife and we were able to scout out several little islands. The food was perfect and well prepared. After our day of kayaking, we returned to our campsite and we enjoyed a nice dry bed in our camping pod. It was so easy to get a great night of sleep to be ready for the next day! This was an unforgettable experience! Thank you to everyone at Hello Nature!

Wonderful Kayak Trip in the Broken Group Islands

24-Aug-2018

We had a wonderful trip in the Broken Group Islands. We had 2 guides for our group of 6 people and they were both very knowledgeable and friendly. The food was delicious and the gear was really comfortable. We paddled for approximately 4 hours a day, with a lunch break to split up the day. The guides did a good job of finding a pace that worked for everyone in our group. Highly recommend, would love to come back!
