Tour Overview

The snow-capped high-altitude peaks and serene mountain passes of Bhutan are calling. With altitude differences of 2,500m and nearly 5,000m, pristine forests home to some of the world’s most endangered species of flora and fauna, a wide range of stunning landscapes with crystalline rivers meandering through the beautiful gorges, there’s something magical about this trip that every trekker should experience for themselves.

The highlight of the trek (Day 4-10) is the spectacular view of Mt. Jomolhari from Jomolhari Basecamp (Jangothang) and interacting with semi-nomadic yak herders. Trekkers who want to avoid high passes and high altitude can choose an easier version of the Jomolhari Loop by retracing their steps from Jangothang (see Day 8, 9, 10) while still having the majestic impressions of Mt. Jomolhari. First 3 days of this trip (Day 1-3) will be spent in Paro and Thimphu visiting ancient temples and Dzongs (fortresses) and get in touch with culture and tradition of the Kingdom of Bhutan that has remained untouched for centuries. On Day 2 of this trip, you will hike to the famous Paro Taktsang or Tiger’s Nest located on the face of the 800m rock cliff.

Highlights

  • Visit ornate temples and magnificent Dzongs (fortresses) and marvel at the fine wall paintings, exquisite architecture and craftsmanship of Bhutan

  • Trek to the base of one of the sacred mountains of Bhutan, Mt. Jomolhari and spend one full day exploring the pristine natural environment in the mountains

  • Interact and experience the life of yak herders who live semi-nomadic lifestyles at an altitude over 4,000 meters above sea level

  • Travel to Paro and Thimphu, the two most developed towns in Bhutan, immerse yourself into the mindful Buddhist way of life away from materialistic world

  • Hike to an 8th-century sacred site where Bhutan’s iconic landmark, 17th-century Paro Taktsang or Tiger’s Nest is located on the face of a precarious 800m rock cliff

  • The trekking will take you through the majestic mountains of Bhutan, glistening glacial lakes, pristine forests inhabited by some of world’s most endangered species of flora and fauna

You'll begin by first visiting the auspicious 7th-century Kyichu Lhakhang built by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo to subdue the spirit of the demoness who was obstructing the propagation of Buddhism in the region. You'll also visit the National Museum of Bhutan housed in the 16th-century watchtower to get insight into the history and the rich cultural traditions of Bhutan.

After lunch, drive 30mins to the viewpoint on a hilltop where Sangchoekhor Buddhist College is located, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and a beautiful view of the Paro valley and then drive back to Paro town for a leisure stroll around the town.

After lunch at the Taktsang Cafeteria, descend back to the base and drive to the capital city Thimphu, home to about 115,000 residents. It is the only capital city in the world without traffic lights and commercial billboards. People from all walks of life come here to pray and circumambulate clockwise. In the heart of the town is the Bhutan Postal Museum if you are interested in philatelic and stamp collection. His Majesty the King graciously granted several rare collections of philatelic and communications products giving additional insights into the history of Bhutan’s philatelic and communications systems. You can also have stamps printed with your own photo.

Visit the National Library & Archives of Bhutan considered as a national treasure and a fundamental source of Bhutanese history, religion, medicine, arts and culture. Life changing experience that was underpinned by our two wonderful guides - Tashi and driver Sonam. They are exceptional at their jobs and we could feel their hospitality and pride in their country at every step of the trip. Karma the managing director was also extremely communicative, detail oriented, and thoughtful throughout our entire stay. His ability to curate a wonderful stay was only topped by his flexibility in accomodating for our needs. Overall highly recommend!

I organized a Bhutan trip with Bhutan Aircon Tours & Travels. 22-Mar-2024

Talking to other travellers during our stay in Bhutan, we realised that we had been very lucky with our agency. The tour itself was well organised, the communication beforehand was excellent, fast and helpful. We also had an amazing guide, Norbu, who made our trip magical and very special. With his incredible knowledge of the country's history, recent developments, Buddhism, flora, fauna and so much more, we couldn't have asked for more. Coupled with his openness and humour, we enjoyed every single moment. It was quite impressive to see his professionalism despite his young age. In addition, we so much enjoyed observing his interaction with local people, especially kids. If you plan to book this tour - ask for Norbu as your guide.

What an incredible tour of...

18-Mar-2024

What an incredible tour of an even more incredible country. Peaceful, restful, relaxing, beautiful are just some of the qualities of both. The history and culture are equally amazing. It is hard to write a review of this experience without sounding like an exaggeration. Bhutan is truly worth the time and effort to visit, and Bhutan Acorn Tours & Travel is an exceptional agency with which to experience it. Accommodations were first rate. The people of the country are unbelievably friendly and accommodating. From the beginning to the end of my initial contact with Acorn I felt the commitment to ensure my every concern was accommodated. Mr. Karma quickly and efficiently secured my visa, flight reservations and travel arrangements with ease and consideration for my individual circumstances. It is hard to put into words the comfort I felt dealing with him. Reliability is only one of them. On the ground, Mr. Norbu, my guide, and Mr. Nidup, my driver, ensured that I experienced and understood all that I saw. Patience and desire to ensure my trip was enjoyable, educational, and inspiring was clearly their primary goals. Mr. Norbu never tired of my questions even when asked over and over. It was like traveling with two knowledgeable friends. When was the last time you sat watching an archery competition (Bhutan archery is unique) or played a few games of snooker with your driver and guide? I cannot recommend this tour more strongly.
