Day 1: Cuzco, Peru

Location: Cusco

Accommodation Name: Overnight in a guesthouse

Cuzco to Malaga High Pass, Mountain Biking to Santa Maria Village, Rafting Activity (L/D) Today we leave Cuzco between 6:40 - 7:00am to journey by road in a van making our first stop after 1.5 hours in Ollantaytambo where we can have a quick breakfast and buy some snacks. Then we continue driving for another 1.5 hours up to the Malaga High Pass (4,350 meters) where our guide will provide us with a safety briefing before we begin our adventurous 2.5 hour bike ride down into the lush and humid jungle. We will see Huamanmarca Archaeological site along the way, cruise through fruit plantations and over rivers, before arriving to Santa Maria village (1,400 meters) at around 2:00-2:30pm. Here we will depart on a scenic 2.5 hour rafting adventure that takes us down class III & IV rapids on the Urubamba River (also known as Vilcanota River). Enjoy your night at a basic, rustic guesthouse in Santa Maria. (If you choose not to participate in the rafting adventure you can walk around the town on your own this afternoon.)

Day 2: Santa Teresa Village, Peru

Trek to Santa Teresa Village (1,680m) (B/L/D) After an early morning breakfast, we will begin our day of hiking through the jungle mountains to observe beautiful pristine landscapes, abundant flora and fauna and friendly local people. Have lunch halfway during the trek and relax breathing fresh mountain air. In the afternoon we will arrive to Santa Teresa village (1,680 meters) where we will stay overnight in a guesthouse. (Optional hot springs at an extra cost).

Day 3: Aguas Calientes, Peru

Location: Aguas Calientes

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Lunch

Zip-line Activity and Trek to Aguas Calientes (B/L/D) Fly through the treetops on a 2-hour morning canopy excursion on South America's highest and Peru's first canopy zip-line. Traverse over 2,500 meters of cables with the longest ride covering 400 meters and the highest at 150 meters. Take an easy 3-hour hike along the train tracks from Santa Teresa to Hydroelectric Station where you will stop for lunch. Continue 3 more hours on foot to reach Aguas Calientes town (most people hike this portion of the trek but there is an optional train ride from Hydroelectric Station to Aguas Calientes if you're feeling tired). There are internet cafes, cafes with board games and cards, plenty of shops and places to relax there. Overnight in a hotel tonight for a well-deserved shower and good night's sleep.

Day 4: Cuzco, Peru

Location: Cusco

Meals Included: None

Explore Machu Picchu & Return to Cuzco (B) We will catch one of the first buses (05:30 am) to Machu Picchu (25-minute ride) in order to appreciate the magnificent city in the early morning light as the mist dissipates. A walking tour (approximately 2 hours) is given by your guide and after this you can explore the mysterious city on your own. If you still have energy you can also climb the Huayna Picchu Peak (to be booked in advance at an extra cost). Return to Aguas Calientes by bus. If time allows, visit the local marketplace next to the train station and shop until the train whistle blows, signaling your return to Ollantaytambo. From Ollantaytambo, you will take a bus back to Cuzco arriving around 08:00pm. You will be dropped off at the Plaza San Francisco. Please make your own way to the accommodation of your choice.

What is the itinerary for the final day of the trek?

On the final day, you will catch one of the first buses to Machu Picchu, have a guided walking tour, explore the site on your own, and then return to Aguas Calientes by bus. From there, you will take a train to Ollantaytambo and a bus back to Cuzco, arriving around 8:00 pm.

No! Most of our bamba travellers fall between the ages of 18 - 35, but everyone is young at heart and welcome to come experience the world with us! If you are between the ages of 18 and 118, we invite you to travel with bamba and have the time of your life! Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Who will be my travelling companions on the tour?

Most of our trips cater to the adventurous independent traveller. In fact, many of our travellers arrive on their own and quickly find that they easily meet like-minded people along the way at their hostels, on transportation, or during activities.
Do I need travel insurance?

We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance for your trip, especially when travelling in developing countries. Bamba does not include travel insurance of any type.Your current medical insurance may cover part of your trip, so it is important for you to become familiar with your current coverage. We recommend purchasing additional travel insurance that provides coverage for medical emergencies, emergency evacuation and repatriation, lost or stolen items and unforeseen cancellations. If you plan to participate in activities such as white-water rafting, trekking, sand-buggy rides, etc please make sure they are included in your policy.

The best trip of all time! A 4 day trip in the jungle with intense adventures on land, in the air and on water. Vincent was a passionate guide that made our trip unforgettable with rich history and humour all the way. I would definitely recommend to do a jungle trek where you both get the adrenalin pumping, interesting information about Peru, the Inkas and much more.

We did the 4 day jungle trek with Percy as our guide and we can only say positive things! Percy was an incredible guide who was very knowledgeable, fun and organised. He showed us a great insight into Peru and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The trek itself has a combination of activity, hiking and learning. It’s tough in parts but overall very achievable!

We trekked, biked, rafted, zip-lined and visited Machu Pichu all within a few days. I feel the trip was value for money because the accommodation and food was brilliant with our guide being even better.

4 Day Jungle Adventure to Machu Picchu

We just completed the 4 Day Jungle Adventure to Machu Picchu and it was absolutely amazing! There was a lot more hiking involved than I expected but it was extremely rewarding once you got through it. My girlfriend and I also included the hike to Machu Picchu mountain and it was everything! We completed the trip exhausted and full of life and gratitude.

We were really satisfied with the tour. It was professionally planned and Bamba made sure, we always new what the next step of our trip would be. The guide (Junior) was very interesting and kind. We had a great time with him! He had a lot of positive surprises for us along the way, which we didn’t know was included. That was really nice. The jungle/adventure trek is a great alternative to the classic Inca trail, if you don’t want to trek that much. You don’t need to have a lot of experience with rafting, zip lining or mountain biking to do the trip. As long as you know how to ride a bike, you’ll be good :)
