The temple at Kom Ombo was also built at this time, under Ptolemy VI. Since this bend in the Nile was a favored spot for crocodiles to bask in the sun and threaten locals, it is natural that the temple would be dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god. But it is unusual in having a double dedication: it also honors Haroeris, a form of the falcon-headed god Horus. breakfast on board. Begin your Luxor tour by a visit to The Karnak Temple, the largest place of worship ever built. In ancient Egypt, the power of the god Amun of Thebes gradually increased during the early New Kingdom, and after the short persecution led by Akhenaten, it rose to its apex. In the reign of Ramesses III, more than two thirds of the property owned by the temples belonged to Amun, evidenced by the stupendous buildings at Karnak. Although badly ruined, no site in Egypt is more impressive than Karnak. It is the largest temple complex ever built by man, and represents the combined achievement of many generations of ancient builders. The Temple of Karnak is actually three main temples, smaller enclosed temples, and several outer temples located about three kilometers north of Luxor, Egypt situated on 100 ha (247 acres) of land. Karnak is actually the sites modern name. Its ancient name was Ipet-isut, meaning "The Most Select (or Sacred) of Places".
Then move to Luxor Temple. It was built by Amunhotep III in 18th Dynasty in the New Kingdom and it was completed by Ramesses II during the 19th Dynasty. King Ramses II was the most famous king in the 19th Dynasty. He ruled Egypt for about 67 years. It was dedicated to the great god Amun-Ra, his wife Mut and their son Khonsu together representing the Theban triad. Enjoy visiting Obelisk of Ramses II in front of the 1st Pylon. It was called "Ipet resyt", which means the Southern Opet or the Place of the Seclusion of Amun-Re. It was directly connected to the temple of Karnak, the main cult center of Amun-Re or Amun-Min, the sky god or the ithyphallic fertility god. The temple of Luxor has, since its inception, always been a sacred site. After Egypt's pagan period, a Christian church and monastery was located here, and after that, a mosque (13th century Mosque of Abu el-Haggag) was built that continues to be used today, Transfer to Hotel.

life in Egypt

15-Jul-2021

I had a great tour with ancient egypt tours. The itinerary included many of the main historical ancient sites, and our guide Adham was very knowledgeable and informative. It was a rough schedule but definitely worth it as it would have been far more difficult to arrange for transport from place to place independently. The optional hot air balloon ride was incredible and Abu Simbel was the highlight of the tour. I only wish there was a bit more time to wonder around to get a taste of everyday life in Egypt, and I wish they explained a bit more about modern-day Egypt too.

Fantastic experience and great tour

15-Jul-2021

Fantastic experience and great tour. Would definitely recommend it! Very well organised. There were some late nights and early mornings if you decide to do the extras but worth it. We couldn't ask for a better tour guide (Adham) to take us trough the memories of this great ancient civilisation. The felucca it s definitely something you should google before booking as it s pretty basic.

Fantastic experience and great tour

Loved this tour

15-Jul-2021

Loved this tour! I have recommended this to so many of my friends already who were thinking of visiting Egypt. The reason I recommend it so highly is because of Mo! Here’s a couple of dot points as to why: - organised and super professional - his knowledge of Egyptian history was so impressive - he went above and beyond to ensure the whole tour was enjoying their time. Even when a few of us got sick he was checking on us and helped us out with ensuring we had the right medication to make us better - very friendly, kind and approachable - his English is amazing I have never had a tour guide like Mo before, he is a very valuable asset to your team at travel talk and it is because of him I’m recommending your brand and also planning my next travel talk tour. My last point on overall feedback on the tour, I’d say out of all the beautiful accomodation we stayed at The Oasis was probably the most poor, especially when it came to their food. Another lot of feedback would be to promote the option of flying from Dahab back to Cairo.
